About Dorset Scope
We were founded in 1955 by Mrs Phyllis Edwards who formed a group of parents intent on providing better opportunities for their children with physical and learning disabilities.
As further needs were identified we opened:
Langside School - 1959
Edward House - 1974 (now closed, the residents now living in supported settings in the community)
Kinsbourne Short Stay Childrens Home - 1989 (moved to Smithers 1995)
Barnabas Day Centre - 1994
Shapes - 2005
Dorset Scope now provides a wide range of services for children and adults.
