Welcome to Dorset Scope

Adults at Dorset Scope

At Dorset Scope, people are supported to be as independent as possible and encouraged to enjoy their own lives to the full. There are currently 33 people being supported in 17 different settings. Many people receive support right around the clock.

At the Barnabas Project Centre, there is an opportunity for adults who have physical and learning disabilities to meet together during the day, perhaps engaging in leisure or project activities together, socialising or learning new skills that will encourage independence.

The values that are encouraged in all adult services are those of dignity, respect, choice, responsibility and community. Dorset Scope believes it has a duty to provide services and support in person centred way and seeks to discover what the needs and wants of people are, and to meet them wherever possible. We believe in tailoring services to meet individual need.

At present, funding for services is received from a number of different streams; from individuals and from local authorities. Increasingly, it is likely that there may be a greater emphasis on individuals holding their own budgets. Service providers like ourselves will need to ensure that they are providing what people want to purchase; we welcome that change and seek now to respond to individuals in a person centred and specifically-tailored way.
