Tanya

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your past experience?

I’m a Mum of 2, and like to help people.

What are your hobbies/interests? Is there anything unusual you like to do in your spare time?!

I play the flute and read. I still play the flute with a music group at the Stables family home trust.

What sort of volunteering do you do/ have you done for Diverse Abilities Plus?  What tasks does that involve/skills does that use?

I helped get raffle prizes, that involved lots of walking and decent communication/people skills and not being afraid to ask for the prizes!

Do you do regular volunteering or on an ad hoc basis?

I regularly volunteer at the stables every Monday with their music group and help cover other staff members as and when needed. For diverse abilities plus it’s as and when my Mum asks me!

What made you decide to Volunteer for DAP?

My Mum asked if I could help and I felt I could so did!

Had you had any previous experience in Volunteering? If so, where?

I’ve been volunteering at the Stables for about a year with their music group and helped with their production of the Wizard of Oz and the Stables Got Talent.

What have you gained/learnt from your Volunteering experience? Is it what you expected?

I have gained better self-confidence and a little bit of training. I give so little but get so much back it is hard to describe the exact feeling!

What do you enjoy about volunteering for DAP?

Doing my little bit to help.

Would you recommend other people get involved? Why?

I would recommend people to volunteer you get more than you give so why wouldn’t you? And its fun!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I may have got into volunteering through family members but I’m glad they did as it is now something I love and look forward to.
